- Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Generalised anxiety disorder
- Social anxiety
- Panic disorder
- Specific phobias
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Agoraphobia
- Depression
- Low self-esteem & perfectionism
- Trauma related to abuse, assault or occupational exposure
If you are unsure whether therapy is right for you, or you are unsure as to which path is best suited, we can discuss this together during the initial consultation.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Also known as CBT, cognitive behavioural therapy is a structured, evidence-based treatment that looks at the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Through collaborative work, CBT focuses on identifying thinking patterns and behavioural responses that may be maintaining distress. Therapy not only helps you to develop practical strategies to reduce anxiety, improve mood and build confidence; it can also help you uncover the deeper patterns that shape how you see yourself.
Recommended by NICE guidelines, CBT sessions are goal-focused and tailored to your individual needs, popular for anxiety disorders, depression, OCD and PTSD.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a specialist trauma-focused therapy that is designed to help the brain process distressing or traumatic memories that feel overwhelming. When traumatic experiences have not been fully processed, they can continue to trigger intense emotional or physical reactions, even after the event has passed. This is where EMDR can help, as it supports the brains natural processing system, helping memories to become less distressing and intrusive.
EMDR is highly recommended for PTSD, and can be effective for:
- Nightmares
- Flashbacks and intrusive memories
- Heightened anxiety or hypervigilance
- Avoidance of reminders of the trauma
- Emotional reactivity linked to past events
- Persistent negative beliefs and feelings of guilt and shame
