His extensive expertise allows him to offer advanced, personalised care, diagnosing and managing conditions promptly and effectively. In addition to the following specialist services Mr Aftab also offer treatment and management of dry eye & watery eye issues, blepharitis, flashes and floaters and more.

Private treatments offered for Glaucoma

Mr Aftab at Inspire Health offers his glaucoma patients a personalised treatment package to adequately control intra ocular pressure to stop progression of this sight threatening condition. In addition to state of art glaucoma diagnostics like retinal nerve fibre analysis, optical coherence tomography of optic nerves and medical management of pressure, the individualised treatment plan may include Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT laser) which can control glaucoma and may obviate the need for pressure lowering glaucoma drops or glaucoma surgery.

Private Diabetic Retinopathy treatments

Inspire Health offers the latest treatments for diabetic maculopathy and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. These treatments are provided by our experienced Ophthalmologist Mr Aftab. He has extensive experience in treating diabetic patients with laser surgery, intravitreal injections of anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor drugs (Vabysmo,Eylea, Lucentis&Avastin), intravitreal Ozurdex implants. Ozurdex implant is placed in the eye and it slowly releases steroid in the eye over 3 to 4 months. Mr Aftab also offers his patients of diabetic maculopathyIleuvin which is a very long acting steroid implant whose effect can last for 3 years.

Patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (abnormal retinal blood vessels) treatment with anti VEGE drug injections which according to latest research is the treatment of choice for these patients. This treatment does not affect the peripheral visual field unlike the standard laser treatment for this condition. The treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy with anti VEGF drugs has no effect on the ability of patients to continue to drive unlike when this condition is treated with retinal laser which can lead to one losing the driving license due to loss of peripheral visual field.

Private clear natural lens replacement to achieve spectacle independence

In this procedure the natural lens of the eye is removed and is replaced with a special permanentintraocular lens implant (IOL) which allows spectacle free distance and near vision. This can be an alternative to laser eye surgery in individuals over 45 years of age.  Spectacle independence obtained by laser eye surgery is not permanent as this is lost when one develops cataract with age, however unlike laser eye surgery in refractive clear lens replacement, the improvement in spectacle independent vision is not affected by later cataract formation as the crystalline lens has already been removed.

Mr Aftab at Inspire Health after a detailed consultation will formulate a suitable personalised treatment plan to meet the desired expectations of every individual patient. Mr Aftab has been doing Refractive Clear Lens Replacement for more than 15 years. There are different types of premium intraocular lenses available which can be used to achieve good spectacle free distance and near vision. Depending upon lifestyle/visual requirements and results of eye measurements/scans an appropriate premium intraocular lens is selected for each individual for this procedure. The surgery will be done at a local affiliated hospital.

Private treatment for macular scarring

Mr Aftab at Inspire health offers his patients with macular scarring Scharioth Macular Lens (SML). The SML technology has been developed to enhance the quality of life of patients with macular scarring due to dry AMD or stable treated wet AMD. It can also be helpful for patients with other macular diseases, e.g. myopic maculopathy or certain hereditary retinal diseases who develop central macular scarring.

At your consultation with Mr Aftab at Inspire Health you will have detailed examination and ocular assessment to see if you can benefit from Scharioth Macular Lens. If found suitable your surgery will be done at an affiliated local hospital followed by your post operative care at Inspire Health.

Private Cataract Surgery at Inspire Health

Inspire health offers private appointments for assessment of cataract patients. Inspire Health consultant ophthalmologist Mr Aftab was the first surgeon to introduce suture less small incision cataract surgery under anaesthetic eye drops in North Lincolnshire in 2002.

Cataract patients at Inspire Health will have a detailed examination of their eyes during their consultation with Mr Aftab. Depending upon their life style/visual requirements and results of their eye measurements/scans an appropriate personalised treatment plan will be formulated to meet the desired expectations of each individual.

Cataract patients at Inspire Health can choose between three types of surgical options

Simple Cataract Surgery

In simple cataract surgery a single vision (mono-focal) intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted into the eye at the time of surgery. A mono-focal IOL is an intraocular lens with a fixed focus for one distance.

Advanced Cataract Surgery

Suitable for cataract patients with significant astigmatism. In advanced cataract surgery astigmatism is corrected with special individually ordered toric intra ocular lenses or limbal relaxing incisions.

Refractive Cataract Surgery

Refractive cataract surgery has the potential to give cataract patients spectacle independence after cataract surgery. Refractive cataract surgery can allow most patients to see clearly without glasses or contact lenses both for distance and near.
